Instagram is one of the most powerful social media tools out there. However, in order to exploit its full potential you need to know all its secrets. These mind-blowing Instagram hacks from 5 super successful bloggers will help you become a pro in social media. Let’s get started!
The girls from Blogging4Keeps believe that in order to beat the new algorithm, you should focus on your engagement levels. In fact, if your account is getting a lot of engagement (likes + comments), the new smart algorithm might even be of benefit to you as it will prioritise your posts – think what happened with Facebook Business Pages after they’ve updated their algorithm… after all, Instagram is owned by Facebook, right?
So your Instagram strategy for the next few months should be Engagement over Growth.
My personal tip is to start casual conversations with your followers on Instagram. It’s a great place to make friends and find out more about your followers, their needs and preferences. My blogger friend Shannon who runs @codinghandbags is absolutely nailing it! Check out her engagement rates on Instagram!
Absolutely golden tips by Melyssa Griffin – I highly recommend heading over to her article and checking out all the 6 hacks. My favourite one is to analyse your followers, so you can tailor your posts to their engagement. Turns out there is a software for that – it’s called Iconsquare (I’ve actually seen the name before, but I’ve never even imagined that you can study the behaviour of your followers with it!)
Of course, the first thing I did was to sign up to Iconsquare and try it out. I must say – it’s great! It shows you pretty clever things like the correlation between posting up images and getting new followers or when is the best time to post your images in order to maximise your engagement rates and lots of other very interesting insights.
Every time I’m going to the search tab on Instagram, it’s literally bombarding me with videos. I don’t know about you, but to me it looks like Instagram are massively pushing video content at the moment! That’s why I was very happy when I found this article by Mehroz Khan on Jeffbullas.com blog with some great tips for your Instagram video strategy.
My personal takeaway from the article is that you should avoid taking videos that are too commercial (if you’re a brand) and as a blogger, try focusing on “HOW TO” videos – they seem to get the most engagement. After all, people love watching videos that genuinely add value by helping them solve a problem or teaching them something new.
Another great Instagram hack is from Stephanie from SmallTalkSocial and I really love this one! Has it ever annoyed you that you can’t include any links in your Instagram posts? I know that always I get super irritated, because every time I want to post an image about a new article on my blog, I need to refer to the generic homepage link on my Instagram profile, which is not ideal…
But fear not – there is a company called LinkInProfile that came up with a great solution! (I know… sounds a lot like LinkedIn, but its not!) The solution is to bundle all the links to your recent posts into one landing page. So simple and yet absolutely genius! Feel free to head over to Stephanie’s article to find out exactly how it works.
I mean the title says it all. I absolutely love Victoria’s Instagram and although her article is from 2015, I feel like it’s still super relevant and has lots of amazing tips. At the end of the day, Instagram is all about beautiful images and videos. The better your content – the more love you’ll get from your followers!
My favourite Instagram hack from Inthefrow is to make sure that you have enough light when you take pictures (reducing noise is super difficult) and to use the right photo editing tools. Also, try to find a colour scheme / theme for your Instagram.
I’ve been using VSCO cam for the last few months to edit my images, but Victoria is suggesting to use Adobe Photoshop Express App (which I’m pretty embarrassed to say haven’t even thought of looking up until I saw her article). Obviously, I’ve downloaded it straight away and it’s pretty good and has slightly more functionality than VSCO or Instagram editing tools.
